"Debunked" argument the least common
I've done numerous street actions the past several years and only once has a passer (college age) said: "Uh, are you guys aware that Popular Mechanics did a big expose which refutes the claims you guys make?" I politely explained that they haven't done any such thing, and urged him to look at all sides, and to read Popular Mechanics followed by DRG's D911D. He took our materials and said, "OK, I'll look into it... but as of this moment I'm reeeally skeptical."
I added an option...
"bin Laden confessed" I've heard it a few times, once from a Cambridge police officer who was checking out my display in Harvard Square... and editing the poll means everyone can vote again, twice! But pick your third and fourth choices, not your first and second again...

The pseudo-Freudian excuse
You believe in this conspiracy non-sense because the reality of the attacks by Muslim fanatics is TOO SIMPLE for you.
The reality is also TOO IRRATIONAL for you to accept. So in order to come to term with the frightening reality of an unpredictable and unjust terrorist attack you create the much more comforting fairy tale of an attack by your own government. Feels better, uh?
Other Reason
I voted other for two distinct arguments.
1. "Islamic terrorism obviously exists , if they did not do 911 they wanted to, so the course of action through fog of war is justified".
2. "I realize America's only asset is its military dominance and unless it operates in imperialistic 'grey areas'(or if 911 was exposed) , then US will lose all importance on the world stage (though I would never admit this as my reason for denial)"
