Now comes my smart-aleckiness:

First of all, if you are going to conscientiously object do it like a man, or like a woman if that's what you are. Not like a weasel. He was duped into signing up? Admit the mistake and draw attention to the fact that you are deserting. Don't just do it and go hook up with a friend who made a movie and proceed to live it up in Hollywood. There are plenty of people who took the honorable route whose names I can't remember right now because they have never gotten as much publicity as the great Korey Rowe.

This stinks to high heaven. Are we really to believe that Oneonta police went looking for him because he was a deserter? I mean, if they stopped him for speeding and ran a check on him and found a warrant from the army I would buy it. But this seems a bit too staged considering who all's involved.

Of COURSE I respect anyone's decision not to continue to participate in an illegal war. What I do not respect is Korey Rowe. Not only do I not respect him I do not trust him.
